Public Use Computing

Computing services are available in the following areas and may provide access to the USF Libraries Databases, the Internet, and network printing:

 

WebExpress and Library Catalog Access Computers—Three WebExpress terminals for quick catalog and web browsing are located on the 1 st floor in the north reference area. Eight computers are located with the library stacks on all floors to allow quick access to the online USF Libraries catalog to look up books. All stack and WebExpress computers are restricted to USF-based web sites and the online catalog.

 

Non-USF Computers—Available in the north reference area are two non-USF community use computers with Internet and library catalog access. The Poynter Library provides public access computers to use the library’s subscription database resources for research purposes only. Visitors should ask a library staff member for access to these computers.

 

USF Affiliated User Computers—Two computers have been reserved in the north reference area for use by USF affiliated organizations. The following affiliated groups may use the research computers: a photo ID showing affiliation may be required prior to use:

  • All Children’s Hospital faculty and staff
  • Eckerd College students and faculty (currently affiliated)
  • Florida community college students and faculty (currently affiliated)
  • Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (Florida Marine Research Institute)
  • IB Students – St. Petersburg High School and Palm Harbor High School
  • NOAA Staff based at Bayboro Station
  • Poynter Institute for Media Studies (currently affiliated)
  • SAPL members
  • Shorecrest AP students
  • St. Petersburg Theological Seminary
  • State University System of Florida faculty and staff (currently affiliated)
  • USF Alumni (with a current USF alumni card)
  • USF Board of Trustees
  • USF President’s Council
  • USGS
  • Visiting faculty/scholars (with current university ID)

Visitors should ask a library staff member for access to these computers.

 

Apple Computer—One Apple computer is located in the north reference area for use by USF students and faculty. A current USF ID must be shown prior to use. Members of the USF community should ask a library staff member for access to these computers.
