Jan Reiner, an architect and longtime resident of St. Petersburg, emphasizes the transformation of the urban landscape in his works. According to Reiner, the urbanist “creates an environment which serves public needs and is in harmony with nature.” A 1932 graduate of Prague University in his native Czechoslovakia, Reiner later earned a masters degree in architecture at Harvard. His extensive record of teaching, consulting, and design work brought him acclaim as an architect that emphasized creative solutions to urban settlements. The Poynter Library celebrated his contributions to “Architecture and Urbanism” in an exhibit of Reiner’s works from October 2002 through January 2003.

The articles, photocopied clippings, and research materials in the Reiner file illustrate his professional contributions to the study of urban architecture. Nigel Watson donated many of the materials in this file in February 2002, and supplemental items came from library research files.
