Expanded Academic ASAP 1982 to date

A scholarly index that covers a broad range of subject areas from humanities through science and technology.   Many of the journals that it indexes are held by Poynter Library , plus a majority of the recent entries are delivered full-text on-screen.

Alternative Press Index 1991 to date

Comprehensive guide to alternative sources of information. Coverage is international and interdisciplinary. Indexes alternative, radical and left periodicals, newspapers and magazines. Provides alternative viewpoints on internationally significant subjects."

America : History and Life 1964 to date

Indexes about 2,000 journals that deal with the history of the United States and Canada .   Citation and abstract only.

Contemporary Women's Issues 1992 to date

Indexes journals, research reports, and government documents that cover women's issues globally in over 150 countries.   Many of the entries are provided full-text on-screen.

GenderWatch 1978 to date

Provides full-text coverage of subjects central to women's issues and gender studies culled from international journals, books, newsletters, and conference proceedings.

Social Sciences Full Text 1994 to date

Covers a core group of about 400 journals in sociology, anthropology, geography, economics, political science, and law.   Gives citations and abstracts only.

Arranged alphabetically by topic; individual entries are listed by author and, in some cases, carry short annotations.   Covers the years 1980-1992.   Subject and author indexes.

 

Biographies

Black Women in America REF E185.86 .B542 1993

A combined encyclopedia with half the entries representing individual biographies and half covering general topics and organizations that impacted black women's lives.   Articles are signed, usually illustrated with a portrait, and conclude with a short bibliography.   Volume 2 give a chronology and a detailed 150-page subject index.

Notable American Women, 1607-1950 REF CT3260 .N57

Modeled on the Dictionary of American Biography (20 v.   REF E176 .D563), this title profiles over 1,800 women, the majority of whom were excluded from the DAB .   Biographies are lengthy, signed, and carry extensive bibliographies.   Only those persons with a death date before the end of 1950 are included.   There is a classified index at the back of v. 3.   A fourth volume, subtitled The Modern Period, covers women who died between 1951 and 1975.

Notable Women in American History: A Guide to Recommended Biographies and Autobiographies REF CT3260 .A27 1999

Arranged alphabetically by name, each entry carries a biographical sketch and a list of references to full-length biographies of the individual.   Appendices list names arranged by year of birth, occupation, and ethnicity.

Notable Women in World History: A Guide to Recommended Biographies and Autobiographies REF CT3230 .A28 1998

Arranged as the above companion volume on American women, this title carries an additional appendix of names listed by country of birth.

Significant Contemporary American Feminists REF HQ1412 .S56 1999
