Mental Measurements Yearbook. REF LB3051 M46


Provides reviews of Buros tests and measurements for the time period before 1988 (vol.9) before the Mental Measurements Database begins coverage.

Test Locator (ETS Test Link). 6 v. REF LB3051 .E79 1993.

A library of more than 25,000 tests and other measurement devices that makes information on standardized tests and research instruments available to researchers, graduate students, and teachers. Also includes foreign tests from Canada, Great Britain, and Australia.

 

Finding Tests (Internet):


Buros Institute on Mental Measurements. .

Contains news from Buros, a catalog of publications, and the Buros Library. Links lead to test locators, articles on educational testing, ERIC and other databases, and instructions on using the Mental Measurements Yearbook and Tests in Print.

Child Care & Early Education--Instruments and Measures.

Indexes a variety of data collection instruments and measures relevant to child care and early education research. Instruments are from both qualitative and quantitative studies.

Compendium of Assessment and Research Tools (CART).

A database that provides information on instruments that measure attributes associated with youth development programs. Provides descriptions of research instruments, target population, tools, rubrics, and guides and allows users to locate research tools that address an area of focus.

Rasch Measurement Transactions. .

A site devoted to Georg Rasch and his theory of statistical measurement, with links to the quarterly RMT issues with full-text online. Complete sets of back issues plus links to a bibliography and the listserv are also available.

Tests and Measures in the Social Sciences.

A service of Helen Hough at the University of Texas, this is an index to compilations of tests available in many libraries. The site was designed as a service to locate tests, measures, instruments, etc. when there is a known title or author and a copy of the test is desired. If the test of interest is not listed: 1) the tool may be commercially distributed and must be purchased; 2) the tool is simply not distributed.

A selection of reference materials on this subject is listed below. Additional titles can be found on the third floor of the library in the classification section LB3051-LB3060 for educational tests and on the second floor in the classification section BF176 for psychological tests. Directory of Test Collections in Academic, Professional, and Research Libraries. REF LB3051 .D564 2001.

A list, organized alphabetically by state and institution, of resources that hold copies of tests. An index at the back gives a subject breakdown of test collections, using Mental Measurements Yearbook categories.

Test Critiques. 10 v. REF BF176 .T419

Description and evaluation of the most frequently used psychological, educational, and business tests. Each section is written by an authority on the test subject and ends with a list of references. The final volume contains a cumulative author, title, and subject index.

Tests: A Comprehensive Reference for Assessments in Psychology, Education, and Business. REF BF176 .T43 2003.

Designed for quick identification of English-language instruments, each entry gives descriptive information of the measure. The 5th edition (2003) includes those tests still in print that were listed in previous editions. Author, title, and publisher indexes are at the back.

Tests In Print. REF LB3051 .T445

Each of these volumes “consists of descriptive listings of and references to commercially published tests that are in print and available for purchase. It [also] serves as a comprehensive index to the Mental Measurements Yearbooks published to date.” The 2002 edition of Tests in Print cumulates the information in the earlier editions plus adds any new tests created and published since the last edition. In addition to detailed author, title, and subject indexes, there is a list of acronyms and a score index.

Achievement Test Desk Reference. REF LB3060.3 .A28 2002.

A descriptive and analytical list of over 320 achievement and cognitive tests used with learning disabled students. The Cattell-Horn-Carroll theory of cognitive abilities is used as the basis for measurement; a series of appendices explain CHC worksheets. There is an index at the back.

Assessment Debate: A Reference Handbook. REF LB3051 .S66 2001.

An overview of “authentic assessment,” including an extensive chapter describing the movement and a chapter giving an annotated bibliography of sources. Appendices include a state-by-state report on assessment and an index.

Handbook of Research on Teaching. REF LB1028 .H315 2001.

A summary and critical analysis of educational research, divided into eight broad sections, each subdivided into lengthy chapters. Articles are written by experts in the field and carry lengthy bibliographies. There is an extensive subject index as well as a name index.

Testing and Standards: a Brief Encyclopedia. REF LB3051 .W4966 2002

Essays on the politics, practices, measurement, standards, resources, and organizations associated with educational testing in the United States.

ERIC (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts). 1967 to date.

Probably the foremost index in education, ERIC is actually two separate indexing/abstracting services: CIJE (citations and summaries of journal articles) and RIE (citations and summaries for the ERIC document collection).

ProQuest Dissertations and Theses. Microfilm 1861 to date; Online: 1991 to date

A comprehensive source of citation information on dissertations and other research manuscripts written by advanced degree candidates.

PsycINFO (Ebsco). 1887 to date.

Education and Psychology focused database covering journal articles, dissertations, books, and foreign-language resources.

WilsonOmniFile Full-Text. Citations: 1982 to date; Full Tex: 1994 to date. WilsonWeb

This database delivers full-text articles from indexes published by the H. W. Wilson Company: Education Full Text, Education Index Retro and Social Sciences Full Text. As many of the most popular education journals are indexed, WilsonOmniFile is a good source for educational subjects.
