Databases
& Indexes
Provides
indexing of about 350 education periodicals, using a subject-and-author
approach. Although it indexes less than half the
journals of CIJE (see below), it does include a substantial
number that CIJE does not.
Probably
the foremost index in education, ERIC is actually two separate
indexing/abstracting services: CIJE and RIE (see below).
At USF, citations and abstracts to the entire ERIC
collection are available online through USF Libraries Online Catalog.
| CIJE (Current Index
to Journals in Education) |
1969-1996; Index
Row C |
CIJE
is a monthly index to more than 800 primary education journals.
Arranged by abstract number within broad subject
areas, each citation carries a detailed abstract.
Indexing is by subject terms (descriptors) from the Thesaurus
of ERIC Descriptors (available on the Ready Reference shelf).
Poynter Library subscribes to roughly one-third of
the journal titles indexed in CIJE; most of the rest are
available at the Tampa Main Campus libraries.
| RIE (Resources
in Education) |
1973-2001; Index
Row C |
RIE
indexes and abstracts a variety of education documents not
available through normal publishing channels. These
documents include pamphlets, research reports, project reports,
theses, conference papers, government documents, and a host
of other hard-to-find peripheral materials produced in education.
Poynter Library carries the complete set of RIE microfiche
(see E*Subscribe below).
Most
(about 80%) of the ERIC documents are also available full-text
online from 1996 forward through this database. Note
that this applies only to RIE materials.
The
online version of Psychological Abstracts, PsycINFO covers,
in addition, dissertations, books, and foreign-language
journals. Because of its powerful search and retrieval
features, this version is more popular than its print predecessor.
| Wilson
Omni Full Text |
1994 to date |
This
database delivers full-text articles online selected from
six indexes published by the H. W. Wilson Company: Reader's
Guide, Humanities, Social Sciences, General Science , Education,
and Business. Since a good many of the most popular
education journals are indexed in one or more of these indexes,
WilsonSelect is a good source for educational subjects.
