Provides “the most up-to-date statistical information available for every state, county, metropolitan area, congressional district, and for all cities in the United States with a 1990 population of 25,000 or more.” Appendices include geographic concept explanations, components of metropolitan statistical areas, maps of states and congressional districts, a list of cities by county, and source notes for tables. A single-volume work presenting quantitative summary statistics on the political, social, and economic organization of the United States. An online version is available through the Libraries of the USF System Databases section.  

Understanding the Census. REF HA201 1990ar.

Explains census concepts, methods, terminology, and data sources and helps users locate needed census material.

Vital Statistics of the United States. v.1 and v.2. REF HA203 .A22.

A detailed annual report issued in three volumes: births, deaths, and marriages and divorces. Poynter Library carries v.1 (births) and v.2 (deaths) from 1971-1993. A one-volume edition [REF HA203 .V58 2004] offers, in addition, a large collection of statistics on health and disease.

Published by the United Nations; covers population and demographic (births, deaths, marriages and divorces) statistics for 233 countries.

Europa World Year Book. 2 v. Annual. REF JN1 .E85.

Covers information on the U.N. and its agencies followed by detailed data on each member country.

Statesman’s Yearbook. Annual. Ref JA51 .S7.

A concise manual of historical, descriptive, and statistical information about the governments of the world.

Statistical Abstract of Latin America. 2000. REF HA935 .S8 v. 36.

Demographic, social, and economic statistics for the twenty countries of Latin America; time-series data allow comparison between countries and date intervals.

Statistical Yearbook/Annuaire Statistique. Annual. REF HA12.5 .U63.

Summary of international statistics covering population, economic, social, and political topics of the various countries of the world. 

World Development Indicators. Annual. REF HC59.15 .W656.

Economic, social, political, and demographic data produced by a consortium of over 150 countries and international organizations and compiled by the World Bank. Explanatory text and figures introduce each chapter. Appendices give the statistical methods employed, primary data documentation, a bibliography, and an index of indicators.

World’s Women: Trends and Statistics. REF HQ1154 .W95 2000.

A wide range of statistics collected and prepared by the United Nations on the health, education, labor, and human rights conditions of women in the global community.

Criminal Justice

Compiled annually by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, this document presents detailed breakdowns on crime, arrests, and victims. City and county data are included.

Crime in the United States. REF HV6787 .A3.

Released annually by the FBI, this report gives the same data as the Florida report above for all fifty states.

Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics. REF HV7245 .N37b.

Gives a wide variety of statistics relating to crime, including public attitudes, criminal characteristics and demographics, the nature and distribution of known offenses, and the criminal justice system.

Condition of Education. Annual. REF L112 .N377a.

Provides statistics on “indicators”--key data that measure the health of education, monitor important developments, and show educational trends.

Digest of Educational Statistics. Annual. REF L112 .A5.

Provides a selection of nationwide data including surveys by the National Center for Educational Statistics. Covers all areas and types of education.

Education at a Glance: OECD Indicators 2002. REF LB2846 .E247 2002.

Tables and charts give an array of indicators on the current state of education internationally. This edition also provides a new section on learning outcomes.

Projections of Education Statistics. REF LA210 .A28.

Provides ten-year projections of school statistics; gives three estimates: low, middle, and best. Many tables include a fifteen-year retrospective.

History

Datapedia of the United States: 1790-2000. REF HA202 .K87 2004.

Gives the most significant historical statistics from 1789 to 2003 in 31 selected areas covering demographics, social and economic factors, and government.

Historical Statistics of the States of the United States: Two Centuries of the Census, 1790-1990. REF HA214 .D63 1993.

A census-focused compilation of population, agriculture, and manufacturing data for the fifty states. Cities of more than 100,000 inhabitants in 1990 are included.

Historical Statistics of the United States: Colonial Times to 1970. 2 v. REF HA202 .B7 1976.

Covers all aspects of social, economic, political, and geographical development from 1610 to 1970.

Divided by topics; longest possible time periods are covered, depending on available data.

Covers selection and election, policy and organization, and public and congressional relations of each president from Washington to Clinton.

Social Sciences

Annual compilation of public opinion polls on political and social issues.  

Black Americans: A Statistical Sourcebook. REF185.5 .B512 2002.

Groups of tables collected in eight topical chapters detailing information on African American populations. Many of the tables give comparative data from previous years.

Statistical Portrait of the United States: Social Conditions and Trends. REF HA214 .S73 2002.

Gives statistical indicators on a wide variety of subjects that affect the lives of U.S. residents. Comparative data covers the last 50 years, in some cases.  

Statistical Record of Hispanic Americans. REF E184 .S75S74 1993.

Compilation of data describing various aspects of life for people of Spanish, Mexican, Cuban, or Puerto Rican descent. Comparative data is given for other ethnic groups.

Statistical Record of Native North Americans. REF E98 .P76S73 1993.

Data is given in eleven topical chapters for U.S. Native American demographics, economics, and social life. The final chapter covers the same material for Canadian groups.  

Youth Indicators. REF HQ799.7 .Y72 2005.

Investigates “the lives of students beyond [the] schoolhouse doors.” Gives data on home, health, personal values, and the future, as well as school.
