Collection Development
The Nelson Poynter Memorial Library provides information resources to support teaching and learning at the University of South Florida Saint Petersburg. The library’s collection development goals are to support the curriculum of the institution; to provide bibliographic access to a broad range of scholarly material; and to meet some of the recreational reading and general information needs of the students, faculty and staff of the university, as well as of the broader community.
Collections are developed and enhanced through a wide range of activities, in accordance with the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library Collection Development Policy.
Library liaisons, assigned to develop collections in specific academic colleges, departments, programs and subject areas, work with teaching and research faculty to identify unmet user needs, prepare for new courses and curriculum, and enhance collections. Working with teaching and library faculty, the Collection Development Librarian coordinates the selection of materials, and selects materials, to support the curricular, basic research, and information needs of students, faculty, and staff.
