Our Mission, Values, Vision & Goals
Nelson Poynter Memorial Library supports the mission and goals of USF
SP in three ways: In cooperation with the USF Library System, we provide
print, media, and electronic information resources required for teaching,
learning, and research. We provide the services and instructional opportunities
required for using this information effectively. We support student learning
by providing and maintaining classroom technologies.
Our values
- We value a collegial atmosphere of open communication, integrity, and
respect in our relationships with both patrons and colleagues.
- We value the diversity of our faculty and students, their
varying interests, skills and abilities, and their requirements
for
information and instruction in multiple formats and through
various media technologies.
- We value continuously evaluating and creatively responding
to the changing expectations and needs of the campus community.
- We value a spirit of open inquiry in accordance with the
American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights.
- We value our careful stewardship of the Library’s human, fiscal,
and physical resources.
- We value cooperation for mutual benefit within USF, the
Tampa Bay Library Consortium, and other state and
national cooperative linkages.
- We value the responsibility of Library Faculty to contribute
to the library profession through service and research.
- We value our ability to contribute to the intellectual
and cultural life of St. Petersburg and Pinellas

Our Vision

and research."
In accordance with our mission and values, we will:
- Obtain and organize information in multiple formats according to the
instructional and research priorities of the campus.
- Provide access to additional information through resource
sharing within USF, the Tampa Bay Library Consortium,
and other state
and national cooperative linkages.
- Provide the services and technologies necessary to access
and utilize information.
- Offer the instructional opportunities required for USF
students, faculty, and staff to locate, evaluate and
use information.
- Provide and maintain the media technologies required to support
classroom and online instruction.
- Provide and maintain the media technologies required by
students and faculty for research and discovery.
- Foster a spirit of open inquiry in accordance with the
American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights.
- Evaluate continuously and respond creatively to the
changing expectations and needs of the campus community.
- Extend the Library’s information resources and services to the
St. Petersburg and Pinellas County communities when such outreach is
consistent
with the Library’s primary mission to the campus.
- Administer responsibly the Library’s human, fiscal, and physical
resources.
Encourage and support the efforts of Library
faculty to contribute to the library profession
through service and research.

Five Library Goals
- Provide optimum collections to meet the demands
of USF St. Petersburg’s
mission and its expanding curriculum and faculty. (Supports USFSP
Goals 3-5 and USF Goal 4.)
- Provide appropriate library and media services
and technologies to meet the needs of USFSP’s mission and its
continued expansion.(Supports USFSP Goal 5-6 and USF Goal 4.)
- Foster campus, community, regional and state
relationships that increase awareness of Poynter Library’s collections
and services and enhance these services and collections through
inter-institutional cooperation.
(Supports USFSP Goal 5 and USF Goal 7.)
- Expand funding available for library collections and services through
development and grant opportunities. (Supports USFSP Goal 7
and USF Goal 9.)
- Support USFSP’s efforts to achieve separate
SACS accreditation. (Supports USFSP Goal 1.)
