Technical Services
Technical Services is responsible for the following:
- Ordering and receiving library materials
- Receiving and managing serials and periodicals
- Managing the materials budget
- Providing annual statistics that describe technical activities and the physical collection
- Preparing reports that describe library expenditures and collections for use in collection assessment and development
Acquisitions
- Providing
fast, efficient and fiscally responsible acquisition of new materials, including oversight of ordering, purchasing, licensing, receiving, invoicing and physical processing of books, audio-visual materials, software, periodicals and serials
Serials & Periodicals
- Checking in, processing, shelving, claiming and binding periodicals and serials in all formats, including microfiche, microfilm, print and electronic. Analyzing and processing annual subscription renewals
Cataloging
- Providing access to library materials through the management of prompt, adequate and accurate cataloging of materials
- Correctly identifying and downloading bibliographic records; monitoring batch loading of new records; and resolving problems associated with downloading and batch loading of bibliographic records;
creating, editing, and importing bibliographic, authority and item records using the OCLC system and the Library's Aleph library management system
- Working with the Collection Analysis and Technical Services Department (CATS) of the USF Libraries System, and the Florida Center for Library Automation (FCLA), to maintain and administer the library management database
