The Collection Development & Technical Services Department serves the university through the management and development of library collections.

Collection Development

Collection Development is responsible for the following:

Collection Assessment & Analysis

  • Providing discipline and subject-specific reports on the library’s collections
  • Providing analysis of the overall strengths and weaknesses of the collection
  • Analyzing holdings to identify materials for de-selection
  • Analyzing serial and periodical subscriptions by format to identify the need for strategic cancellations, renewals and additional titles

Collection Development

  • Coordinating library liaison selection activities
  • Providing standard bibliographies, recommendations and guidance to faculty and library liaisons
  • Selecting materials in all formats to enhance and develop collections
  • Developing collections to support new programs, new courses and new faculty
  • Receiving and evaluating gifts

Technical Services

Technical Services is responsible for the following:

  • Ordering and receiving library materials
  • Receiving and managing serials and periodicals
  • Managing the materials budget
  • Providing annual statistics that describe technical activities and the physical collection

Acquisitions

  • Providing fast, efficient, and economical licensing, purchasing and processing of books, audio-visual materials, software, periodicals and serials in all formats.

Serials & Periodicals

  • Checking in, processing, shelving, claiming and binding periodicals and serials in all formats, including microfiche, microfilm, print and electronic.

Cataloging

 

  • Providing access to library materials through the management of prompt, adequate and accurate cataloging of materials.
